Peter Berg will take charge of Rihanna, a film which will follow the R&B star's life and chronicle her background.

The Barbados-born beauty starred in Berg's 2012 movie flop Battleship.

A press release about the new film project reads: "Follow this true international superstar as she navigates life as an artist, businesswoman, and humanitarian, while contending with the inherent pressure of artistic freedom.

"Peter Berg's Rihanna is an unfiltered look into Rihanna's life and how she's ascended to become a global icon, providing a glimpse into the evolution of one of the world's most well-known pop artists."

A release date for the film has yet to be revealed.

Berg hinted at the new collaboration on Sunday (10Apr16), when he shared a black-and-white photo of the pair on

He captioned it, "This girl RiRi she's not bad. See I'm smiling I ain't mad (sic)."

Rihanna appears to be a big fan of documentaries after previously hiring filmmakers to follow her every move on her ambitious 777 Tour in November, 2012, when she performed seven concerts in seven different countries to promote her seventh studio album, Unapologetic. She invited a large group of fans and more than 150 journalists to join her on the globe-trotting trek, and their antics were all captioned on camera for the Rihanna 777 Documentary... 7Countries7Days7Shows.

She also gave fans a behind-the-scenes look while on the road for her Diamonds World Tour in 2013, sharing never-before-seen footage in her Half of Me documentary.

Rihanna is also currently busy on her Anti World Tour, which launched in March (16).
