Payne passed away on 15 June (16) in London, following a short battle with cancer.

She began working with the famed filmmaker in the late 1980s, collaborating on such films as Thelma & Louise, G.I. Jane , and best picture Oscar winner Gladiator.

Payne served as an executive producer on Scott's film A Good Year, as well as the 2002 TV movie The Gathering Storm, which starred Albert Finney as former U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

The acclaimed film earned Payne, Scott, and his late brother Tony Scott an Emmy, Golden Globe, and Peabody award. The producing team earned another Emmy nod for the 2009 sequel, Into the Storm.

She also served as the managing director for the director's Scott Free production company for more than 15 years. Payne is survived by her daughter Sarah.
