Ricky Gervais is adamant Kim Cattrall is wrong to take offence at his swipe at the Sex And The City cast, insisting she misunderstood the jibe.
The Office funnyman took aim at several actors when he presented the Golden Globes in January (11), including a joke that Cattrall, 55, and her co-stars had been airbrushed in the poster for the Sex and the City 2 movie.
The actress blasted Gervais following the ceremony, accusing him of "ageism" and making a "cheap" remark - but he's adamant he was making a serious point about the way Hollywood treats actors as they get older.
He tells Britain's Guardian Magazine, "It's the opposite (of what Cattrall said). I don't think you lose your sensuality at 50. But why are we pandering to Hollywood that you have to look 25? The target is the opposite of what she thought."
