Former BBC director-general Greg Dyke has joined Channel 4 Radio as a co-presenter of the Weekly Show.

The four-part series gets underway today and sees the former BBC boss working with comedian Mark Dolan on the programme.

It will take a look at the week's goings on in Westminster and topics that emerged in the newspapers - all with a humorous edge.

Natalie Schwarz, director of radio at Channel 4, said: "We are delighted to have someone of Greg's calibre and expertise on board. Since launch last year we have been pioneering a new kind of contemporary speech radio.

"We enjoy bringing our own tone of voice, attitude and different opinions to the radio landscape across all genres from music, comedy, entertainment, arts, news, current affairs and documentary."

Stars like Ricky Gervais, Stewart Lee, Leigh Francis and Daisy Donavan have all emerged from Channel 4 Radio's Weekly Show.

All of the shows will be downloadable as podcasts, starting with the first programme after it has been launched today.

Guests on forthcoming shows include Greg Davies, Russell Kane, Ruth Pickett, Tony Law and Tom Basden.

Mr Dyke quit the BBC in January 2004 during the broadcaster's fallout from the Hutton Report after fours years in the job.
