Late funk legend Rick James' family members are reportedly locked in a bitter battle over his estate.
Sources say a high-powered meeting of accountants and lawyers was just held to discuss who gets what from the SUPER FREAK singer's estate.
A behind-the-scenes tug of war is reportedly pitting James' daughter TY and her youngest brother TAZMAN against some more distant relatives, who are said to want a claim in the Grammy winner's possessions.
CARY GORDY, the son of Motown founder Barry GORDY and manager of James, tells American TV show CELEBRITY JUSTICE, "Me and Rick were great friends. He was a good family man, a loving father and just wanted to make sure not a lot of in-fighting was going on."
Cary adds that he'd rather focus on how much the superstar would have loved his packed funeral, which took place in Los Angeles earlier this month (AUG04).
James' attorney and accountant have yet to comment.
The star, real name JAMES JOHNSON JR, died in his sleep on 6 August (04) at his California home. He was 56. An autopsy has failed to determine what caused the star's death. Results of a toxicology test are pending.25/08/2004 21:07
