The 53-year-old guitarist left the band on April 2, hours before they were due on stage in Canada citing ''personal matters'', but now reportedly wants to rejoin the Because We Can tour.
A source told the New York Post newspaper: ''Richie's trying to rejoin the band for their gig in Los Angeles. He lives there and his friends and industry big shots will be there.''
Richie's departure sparked rumours he had fallen out with lead singer Jon Bon Jovi over finances, but the singer has remained tight lipped about what happened between them.
The source was doubtful as to whether the band would allow the guitarist - who has previously been in rehab three times - back for a single show, adding: ''Clearly, the man is out of his mind.''
At Bon Jovi's first concert without Richie in Calgary, Canada, Jon told the crowd: ''I had two choices - pack up and go home or give you everything I got.
''Richie Sambora won't be performing for a while. If there's ever a night I need you, it's tonight, Calgary!''
A behind the scenes source elaborated further, saying: ''Richie missed many rehearsals, then he missed the plane.''
Lead guitar is currently being played by Phil X, who has previously stepped in to help the band at other points during their career.
