Director Richard Linklater is set to be honoured with the 2014 Founder's Directing Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival this spring (14).

The Dazed and Confused filmmaker will be recognised for his work on 1 May (14).

Announcing the news on Wednesday (12Mar14), festival programming director Rachel Rosen said, "I remember thinking what a unique voice and film (Linklater's Slacker) we were bringing to the audience (in 1991).

"It's been a joyful experience to see that vision continue. The films haven't stayed the same, but that sensibility and that openness to life has continued to pay off."

Past honourees include Francis Ford Coppola, Spike Lee, and Clint Eastwood.
