Actor Richard Gere is becoming a laughing stock in Japan - for singing so terribly in a new Japanese commercial.

The screen star, who recently flashed his vocal skills in the hit musical Chicago, shot an advertisement for NIPPON AIRWAYS, where he plays the guitar and sings Bob Marley's reggae classic NO WOMAN, NO CRY.

But sources tell American tabloid the STAR that Gere sings completely off-key - and he doesn't appear to be doing it on purpose.
