Rocker Richard Ashcroft is recording his own anthem for this summer's (06) World Cup soccer championships, in aid of the BOBBY MOORE Cancer Fund. The former VERVE frontman is keen to raise cash for the trust, set up by the late soccer star's wife STEPHANIE after Moore died from bowel cancer in 1993. He says, "I'm doing a new version of a song I wrote on my first solo album called C'MON PEOPLE in conjunction with Bobby Moore's wife, who's got a cancer trust going. "I got involved through being asked to play the England V Germany Legends match." Ashcroft is the latest in a series of celebrities to record a World Cup song - other soccer-honouring rockers include THE DARKNESS star Justin Hawkins, former SHAM 69 legend JIMMY PURSEY, Crazy Frog and Embrace, who wrote the official track WORLD AT YOUR FEET.
