Actress Renee Zellweger was so desperate to witness U.S. President Barack Obama's inauguration she launched a last-minute bid to get to Washington, D.C. alone. The star shunned her star status on 20 January (09), and went unrecognised by the two million civilians swarming the nation's capitol after she bundled up to watch Obama's swearing-in ceremony.
And Zellweger insists she was content to give up the company of celebrity revellers, including Oprah Winfrey and Sean 'Diddy' Combs, who watched Obama take his oath from the front rows.
She says, "I just had to be there. I was a bit obsessed... so, with no tickets, and no plan, and no access, I got on a train and I just went.
"I walked for three hours and stood on a police barricade... I was prepared for the crowd, I was prepared for the cold, I wasn't prepared for how emotional it was going to be. I am so glad I was there, regardless of the fact I couldn't feel my toes for three days after the fact."
