LATEST: REM frontman Michael Stipe has apologised to Scottish fans for cancelling a tour date after bassist Mike Mills collapsed.

The group had to pull out of their sell-out Glasgow show last night (22FEB05) at the city's SECC venue because Mills contracted an ear infection brought on by influenza.

EVERYBODY HURTS singer Stipe says, "Obviously, we want to apologise to Scots fans for any inconvenience.

"Mike felt terrible having to cancel shows because it is awful to have to cancel shows on any tour and he feels horrible. But the doctors told him there was no way he could do it.

"He got the flu that everyone in Europe seems to have, but it dovetailed into an inner ear infection which compounded how bad he was.

"He is going to be fine, though. He got good news from the doctors. Though he couldn't play in Glasgow last night, they think he may be able to play Birmingham on the tour today (23FEB05)."
