American rockers REM have agreed to headline a charity event in London to help improve the working conditions of third world labourers.

The LOSING MY RELIGION stars - led by frontman MICHAEL STIPE - are scheduled to join Jamelia and The Thrills on the line-up at the Hammersmith Apollo next week (14SEP04).

The gig's been organised to raise funds for British charity organisation Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign, which is supported by Coldplay frontman CHRIS MARTIN, who often scrawls the logo on his hand while onstage.

A source says, "REM are hoping to collaborate with other artists on the night. It should be a great event and, hopefully, raise lots of money."
