Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon prefers playing roles which are as far away from her own personality as possible, because it gives her a sense of liberation.

The blonde beauty relished her more serious roles as teenage runaway VANESSA in crime thriller Freeway and over-achiever TRACEY FLICK in ELECTION, because they allow her to be someone totally different.

Witherspoon says, "I'd love to do a movie like Freeway again. I have some rage, man!

"They're fun. Those roles are very freeing; they tap into certain areas of your personality as well as being very much removed from who you are.

"I really enjoyed playing Tracy Flick in Election, too, because she was such an extreme character.

"I kind of understand those people for some odd reason."
