The end of the Lollapalooza festival was marred by a huge crowd surge which saw dozens of fans collapse in the crush at the Chicago, Illinois event last night (06AUG06). Photographers and security guards described the surge at Grant Park, prompted by the Red Hot Chili Peppers' headlining appearance onstage, as one of the most violent they've witnessed. The Chicago Sun-Times reports no serious injuries, despite unconscious festival-goers being hauled over barricades to escape the chaos. One person was arrested. The Red Hot Chili Peppers continued their set with a string of tracks from their latest album STADIUM ARCADIUM. Also performing on the final night of the festival was actor Jared Leto's band 30 SECONDS TO MARS.
