Country star Reba McEntire did not want to get a divorce from her manager husband Narvel Blackstock.
The Fancy singer confirmed she had separated from Narvel after 26 years of marriage in August 2015, and their divorce was finalised in October (15), but Reba told her fans they were still friends.
She has now admitted their divorce was not something she wanted but she agreed to it because she did not want Narvel to be unhappy.
“The divorce was not my idea,” she told radio presenter Cody Alan on CMT Radio Live. “I didn’t want it in any shape, form or fashion... It was really hard to make the adjustment when someone’s not happy."
"I just want everybody to be happy in their lives because our lives are too short to be miserable... I just thought it was the best thing to take my marbles and go play somewhere else, is what Daddy used to always say, she explained.
She praised her friends, family and faith for getting her through her marriage breakdown, adding, “I prayed every day to help me have the strength to move one foot in front of the other to continue on with what I’m supposed to be doing and why he put me on this Earth in the first place...
“You’ve got to have a great team of people around you that you love and they love you and I’m very blessed to have those people and I thank God for it all.”
Reba has a son, Shelby, 26, with Narvel, who also has three children from a previous marriage, including Kelly Clarkson's husband Brandon Blackstock.
It was the singer's second divorce. She was previously wed to rancher Charlie Battles for eleven years.
