Bosses of Ray Charles' biopic are planning to stick to their originally planned 29 October (04) release date, following the soul legend's death.

Hollywood studio UNIVERSAL acquired the rights to RAY in March (04) - when it was named UNCHAIN MY HEART: THE RAY CHARLES STORY - 16 years after the project first went into development.

Taylor Hackford, who directed and is a producer on the film, says in a statement, "Although the term 'genius' has been over-used, it is the only description that truly fits the greatness of Ray Charles.

"For the past 15 years, I've had the privilege of collaborating with Ray on a feature film about his life. It didn't take us long to make the film, only to find the financing."

The movie, which stars Jamie Foxx as the legendary entertainer, wrapped in July (03).

Charles passed away at his Beverly Hills home last week (10JUN04), from complications caused by liver disease, aged 73.
