Legendary author Ray Bradbury's longtime Los Angeles home has been demolished by its new owner.

The Fahrenheit 451 writer and his wife Maggie lived in the Cheviot Hills home for more than 50 years, but when he passed away in 2012, the house was put up for sale.

Renowned architect Thom Mayne, who purchased the property for $1.7 million last June (14), is eager to build a new home on the site after receiving a permit for demolition last month (Dec14), and wrecking crews began tearing down the house last Friday (09Jan15).

Items from Bradbury's office, including file cabinets, papers, and many of his books, have been donated to The Center for Ray Bradbury Studies in Indiana.
