Country music icon Randy Travis wowed fans at his own tribute show in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday night (08Feb17) by singing four verses of Amazing Grace.
The singer lost his voice after suffering a massive stroke in 2013, and Wednesday night's 1 Night. 1 Place. 1 Time: A Heroes & Friends Tribute to Randy Travis concert was a marathon morale boost for the star, featuring over 30 famous friends, including Garth Brooks, Alison Krauss, and Wynonna Judd.
But the highlight of the night came after Brooks handed Travis a microphone at the end of a rendition of the singer/songwriter's Forever and Ever, Amen.
Randy grabbed his wife Mary's hand and performed Amazing Grace as fans cheered and clapped.
The four-hour Bridgestone Arena gig, which closed with a spirited rendition of country music anthem Will the Circle Be Unbroken, was a night of surprises for Travis - during the show, Nashville Mayor Megan Barry issued a proclamation declaring 8 February, 2017 Randy Travis Day in the city, while Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam presented Travis with a plaque naming 8 February Stroke Awareness Day in the state.
The biggest tribute to the guest of hour came from Brooks, who said, "There isn't anybody in country music today or in the last 20 years that doesn't owe their career to Randy Travis. I'm one of those guys. You totally saved this music and this format.
"Anything you ever need from me..., it would be an honour to do. I just love you to pieces."
