The trio held hands and took selfies of each other with their cellphones on the red carpet for a screening of the movie at Auditorium Parco Della Musica.

The stars were joined by co-star Julian Wadham and producer Paul Zaentz.

The 1996 movie adaptation of Michael Ondaatje's book picked up nine Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director (the late Anthony Minghella), Best Cinematography, and Best Supporting Actress (Binoche).

Kristen, who was nominated for Best Actress for her role in the film, recently told The Guardian newspaper the film remains one of her favourites.

"The success of the film was thrilling," she said. "I watched it not long ago. It was definitely one of my favourite films to do. It was made from the heart, with integrity, and it’s beautiful."
