Queen rocker Brian May was honoured for his activism at an animal rights awards ceremony on Wednesday (26Nov14).

The guitarist founded animal welfare organisation Save Me in 2010 and he has been tirelessly campaigning on issues including fox hunting and badger culling.

May was named Celeb Supporter of the Year at the Animal Hero awards in London by officials at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Rspca) and Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper.

In a post on Twitter.com, he writes, "Proud to be presented with an award... There were some real heroes there... I don't feel like a hero. Just someone who slogs away to try to balance the endless lies with some truth."
