British head of state Queen Elizabeth II is reportedly fuming after her son Prince Charles' moved his wedding to Camilla Parker Bowles from Windsor Castle to Windsor Town Hall because of a legal hitch.
The heir was forced to abandon plans to wed in a room at the royal Berkshire residence later this year (08APR05) because of a loophole in British law which would have allowed members of the public the right to marry in the same place for the next three years.
A royal insider says, "The Queen believes that by having the service in the local town hall, the last vestige of the mystery of monarchy will be smashed forever.
"Nobody even considered the small print. But the law is clear where marriage licences are granted to a specific premises. Unfortunately for the Queen, this also applies to the castle. If she refuses permission for any other bride or bridegroom to get married there, then it quite clearly flies in the face of the Act of Parliament."
The Queen is also angry with her son - who is reportedly "anguished" at the prospect of changing venues - for leaving only a few weeks to make preparations for the ceremony.
The source adds, "She thinks things have been unnecessarily rushed and Charles is putting his personal convenience ahead of thoughtfulness to his friends and relatives."18/02/2005 14:02
