Britain's PRINCESS ALICE, the eldest member of the country's royal family, has died at the age of 102.

Princess Alice, also known as the DUCHESS OF GLOUCESTER, was the aunt of reigning British monarch Queen Elizabeth II and was the widow of PRINCE HENRY, the third son of KING GEORGE V and QUEEN MARY. She married into the royal family in 1935.

Princess Alice was born in 1901 and her original name was LADY ALICE CHRISTABEL MONTAGU DOUGLAS SCOTT and she was the third daughter of the seventh DUKE OF BUCCLEUCH.

Since 1995 she had lived in Kensington Palace in London with her son, the current DUKE OF GLOUCESTER, and his family.
