Public Enemy, Krs-One, RUN-DMC and Tupac Shakur were among the honourees at the inaugural VH1 HIP-HOP HONORS in New York on Sunday night (03SEP04).

But it was the performances onstage at the Hammerstein Ballroom which stole the show as Public Enemy teamed up with Beastie Boys and Anthrax for a medley of their hits and Chic rocked the house for a finale of GOOD TIMES and RAPPER'S DELIGHT with SUGAR HILL GANG and Mc Hammer.

In other onstage collaborations, DOUG E FRESH teamed up with Beastie Boys to pay tribute to Run-DMC; Nas and his father, jazz great NOLU DARA paid tribute to TUPAC SHAKUR, and Fat Joe and Grandmaster Flash performed KRS-One's SOUTH BRONX.

Others honoured at the first Honours event, which will be televised on VH1 later this month (OCT04), included DJ HOLLYWOOD, DJ KOOL HERC and ROCK STEADY CREW.

The graffiti movement was also singled out as influential to hip-hop culture.
