Yu Yu Hakusho: Dark Tournament - Review PS2 - Atari Games
Atari return with this, their latest anime based fighting game. After the success of the Dragonball Z releases on the PS2, it was only a matter of time before yet another manga inspired game would tarnish our game playing fun. This game is purely for fans of the Yu Yu Hakusho anime series. There is very little here for those unaware of the series.
The game itself has the typical game modes. There is the arcade mode and some card mini-game thingy. Forgive me for being slightly dumb to this but I think my age has a certain relevance here. The arcade and story modes are where the fun is to be found in this game.
The storyline is far too complicated to even bother attempting an explanation. Basically there are plenty of fighters willing to risk it all in a bid to be the best. The cut scenes are shockingly bad with the ridiculous dialogue almost forcing a block of cheese through the television set and right up your nose.
The graphics are fresh and lively with nice vibrant colours adding to the child friendly atmosphere but with a rating of 12+ I'm not sure just exactly who is going to buy this game. The game play is a typical button basher with added pre-determined combinations for special combos. If you enjoy fighting games and are well versed in titles ala Tekken then this game will only disappoint.
I'm sure those fans of Yu Yu Hakusho will find plenty here to enjoy but those who are lucky enough to get through life without suffering the wrath of Yu Yu should count their blessings. It's a game of Marmite, love it and you'll enjoy life with stinky breath; hate it and don't question it. Avoid it like the plague.
