THE GETAWAY: BLACK MONDAY - PS2 Review

Oh yes its back and with a big big! BIG!!! bang. Its the cockney geezer version of GTA: San Andreas. Having had the pleasure of playing both games I can only say its a very close thing to decide which is better. It all comes down to personal preference because gameplay wise they are untouchable, I myself prefer Black Monday the reason for this being I am a massive fan of home grown gangster flicks and this is like the two greatest British gangster movies 'The Long Good Friday' and 'Get Carter' rolled into one scintillating adventure. Am I going over the top? No just watching the cut scenes between each level is like watching a movie with intertwining stories and great plot to create a gangster adventure of great proportions. There has been actual talk of a movie being made based on the game to be starring Colin Farrell (I know he's Irish but who cares, just get the film made).

The story starts with a crack police firearms squad raiding a council estate which ultimately goes wrong in the pursuit of

bringing down the most powerful and ruthless man in London. At this point you play the character of Sergeant Mitchell a moody, quiet and all round hard man who likes to do things his way. This is just one of the characters you will control through the game. The story is taken from different perspectives and weaves through a number of plotlines, giving you a more deeper gaming experience than the free for all GTA: San Andreas.

You will take control of other characters in the game such as boxer Eddie O'Connor an Eastend hardman who reacts first then thinks later, who attempts a bank raid that unfortunately goes wrong with all his accomplices dead and him being beaten to a pulp is where his story begins. These storylines are all heading to an explosive climax and ultimately a gaming experience to remember.

The graphical environments are better than the previous offering and the movements and control of each character is far superior a lot smoother and more responsive. There are also additional games on offer like driving around in a Black Cab picking up and dropping off fares where moving onto the next level once you've achieved the target income.

There is just a slight problem I have encountered during playing this game and that is I'm racing through it, and me being not the greatest gamer around does suggest it is a tad easy going which I don't mind!

A game to experience.
