SILENT HILL 4: THE ROOM - PS2 Review

I must confess I have never previously played any of the Silent Hill series but I was excited about the prospect of this new episode after all the excitement surrounding the Silent Hill 1 to 3.

Unfortunately that is where the excitement started and ended, once the scenes had loaded up which by the way takes too long and is tedious and irritating, I wasn't interested it was as if I had seen it all before back in 1999.

The plot if you can call it that is about a character Henry Townshend who finds himself trapped in his own apartment (Yawn), which is of course cursed. I found it slow and clicking onto objects and getting no relevant information gave me the bums rush. There just wasn't enough going on for my liking, it didn't help that I had just been playing Burnout 3 and after that experience most games would seem a little tepid.

SILENT HILL 4: THE ROOM - PS2 Review

Anyway your character has to explore mysterious portals leading from the apartment into other weird worlds where you begin to uncover clues as why you have been trapped, I personally didn't care and there are some clues which take a while to crack only to find its a red herring, what is the point of that!

During the game you will come across creatures of the night, the undead, the usual ghostly goings on. The makers say it delivers a gameplay experience a newcomer like myself will never forget! Don't bet on it, whats the name of this game?

No doubt regular players of the series will love the fourth episode in the series, I'm not so sure it will give you anymore but just the same as rest. Newcomers will find it old hat.

The game has got some nice touches, it does look good and action switches between traditional third person view and a new first person perspective. Well designed and atmospheric and a haunting soundtrack, but I'm still not convinced
