Princess Beatrice, the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, is celebrating her 23rd birthday today (8th August 2011). The young royal is fifth in the line of succession to the throne, and the first female on the list, reports Bbc News.
Beatrice is perhaps best known for her eclectic fashion choices, most notably her almost matching outfits with sister Princess Eugenie and the hat she wore to the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. Beatrice caused a stir at Westminster Abbey with the dramatic Phillip Treacy creation, which was likened to everything from a pretzel to a jellyfish by fashion commentators. The hat was eventually placed on auction website eBay, with around $160,000 being raised for charities Unicef and Children in Crisis. Commenting on the auction listing, the Princess noted, "I've been amazed by the amount of attention the hat has attracted. It's a wonderful opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two fantastic charities.I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have". As well as her fashion exploits, Beatrice recently became involved in the film industry and made brief appearance in the 2009 flick 'The Young Victoria'.
The Princess recently graduated with a degree in History of Art from Goldsmith, University of London.
