British royal Prince Charles and his fiancee Camilla Parker Bowles will publicly apologise at their wedding tomorrow (09APR05) for betraying their former spouses by having an affair.

The couple committed adultery during their marriages to DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES and ANDREW PARKER BOWLES, so have chosen THE CONFESSION from the 1662 BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER which forces penitents to confess their shame and remorse, instead of the less potent prayers of regret most re-married divorcees pick.

The heir to the throne confessed to being unfaithful to Diana in June 1994, but the speech at the marriage blessing - which will be viewed by millions on television - will be his first public apology for the adultery.

The pair will say, "We acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness which we from time to time most grievously have committed by thought, word and deed against thy Divine Majesty, provoking most justly thy wrath and indignation against us."

A Church of England spokesman explains, "There are many versions of this prayer. But the older, more forceful language was favoured by the prince."
