Fiery, London-based 'gyp-step' band, Molotov Jukebox, are proud to announce the release of their debut album, 'Carnival Flower', on 28th April.
The flamboyant six-piece are fronted by multi-talented singer, actress and fashion icon, Natalia Tena (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, About A Boy), whose provocative, sultry vocals perfectly complement the energetic accordion and refreshing vigour of the group as a whole. Slinking across beautiful harmonies and brilliant pop hooks, Tena lends something colourful and magical to this vibrant new release.
Molotov Jukebox have built an inimitable reputation through weaving together various musical elements which range from gypsy to swing, through to Latin soul, calypso and dubstep: a movement that their dedicated fan base has affectionately dubbed 'gyp-step'.
This melding of genres is perfectly showcased on the eclectic lead track, 'Neon Lights', which blends soulful harmonies, spacey sounds and a fanfare-like riff for an infectious track that is mellow one moment and anthemic the next. This boldness of sound was paired with equally unforgettable visuals in a music video which saw Tena's Game of Thrones co-star, Oona Chaplin, appear as a feisty stripper.
In Tena's own words:
"Neon is our ode to Mistress London, who is a massive bitch but our best friend. She's home."
With a sound so varied and fluid, every track on 'Carnival Flower' makes for interesting listening. Opening offering 'Tread Softly' begins with a powerful drum beat and catchy accordian part before Tena's sultry vocals kick in. 'Punchlines' is a more soulful and jazz-inflected number, while tracks such as 'Tropical BadBoy' see the group turn up the carnival atmosphere with a song that will really get listeners into the party spirit.
Independent of their album, the dynamic group have also become internationally renowned for their riotously energetic and sweat-filled, dance-inducing live shows, which have led to them supporting Kings of Convenience, Beirut and Skrillex.
With their last two EPs, produced by Luke Pritchard of The Kooks, receiving radio praise from the likes ofRadio 1's Rob Da Bank and XFM's Eddie Temple Morris, who described them as "world domination with dancing and possibly sex..." , the band are steadily building a well-deserved buzz. Plus, with Glastonbury Festival Founder Michael Eavis on their side, summarising them in the word "fantastic!", 'Carnival Flower'is sure to propel them to even greater heights.
Molotov Jukebox will also be playing at the iconic Heaven venue in London on 4th April to launch their debut album. They also have a string of live dates across the UK at the beginning of April - for those who have not yet experienced the full force of the band's live show, now is the time.
