Klo is the musical collaboration of Melbourne cousins Simon Lam and Chloe Kaul. The duo's lush soundscapes and spellbinding melodies are the convergence of two worlds - Lam's imaginative arrangements and jack-of-all-trades production paired with Chloe's transcendent, siren-like vocals and evocative lyrics.
The sense of wide-eyed discovery in their music mirrors the course of their friendship: working together as Klo was the catalyst for these family members to get acquainted after years of having little contact. The peaks and troughs of the songs are held up by production channeling half-remembered yet vivid dancefloor spaces. The hardware is percussive and structured, whilst permeated by a creeping emotional momentum and intrinsic pop sensibility.
?New single 'Under Lie' heralds Klo's debut five-track EP Cusp, released on new label Year One Recordings (EKKAH) in the UK and independent powerhouse Remote Control in Australia (FKA Twigs, The xx, Majical Cloudz). 'Under Lie' is streamlined yet propulsive, with lush textures and garage-infused rhythm providing the canvas for captivating lyrical melancholy.
Klo's music is already being praised by critics and peers - their icebreaking first single 'Make Me Wonder' (set in motion at the suggestion of their respective mums') was picked up by BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe and shared across blogs with overwhelmingly positive reviews worldwide. Follow up 'False Calls' was premiered on triple j's 2014, gaining them further attention and fans. First live performances followed, with a set at their hometown of Melbourne and joining the line up at the BIGSOUND Music Conference in Brisbane.
Consisting of five tracks including the aforementioned 'Make Me Wonder' and 'False Calls', the Cusp EP is an enchanting introduction to this fast rising duo.
1. Make Me Wonder
2. Under Lie
3. False Calls
4. Take Us To The Grave
5. Ride/Carry On
