American rock band New Day Dawn will play Rocklahoma; one of the summers' biggest festivals, kicking off Memorial Day weekend (May 24, 25 and 26). The band plays the Axis Entertainment stage at Noon on Sunday, May 26. CHEAP TRICK and Korn will headline that day.
"This is a dream come true and a great honor to be playing with so many great artists that we admire," comments New Day Dawn's leading lady Dawn Botti.
Botti is an authentic rocker chick in the style of Grace Potter and Pat Benatar. She's been doing "whatever it takes" to make her dreams a reality for some time now. Confronted with an ultimatum last year, she left her job as the Senior Vice President of a major media company (and the high six figure salary that went with it.).
"My boss said to me either you're going to be successful here and you're gonna push your music back down to a hobby level or you can't work here," Botti admits.
She documents that experience on her band's latest release Rise Above This. New Day Dawn recorded Rise Above This with Chris Henderson of 3 Doors Down and John Moyer of Disturbed and Adrenaline Mob.
"We didn't want to wait to get some of our newer songs to our fans, so we decided to release Rise Above This as an ep. We actually have at least a dozen more new tracks ready to go and want to return to the studio soon," Dawn says.
New Day Dawn isn't Botti's first stab at rock success either. Her previous band, Slushpuppy, received airplay from Matt Pinfield on NYC's K-Rock (WXRK 92.3FM), when it mattered and would regularly sell out shows at the legendary CBGBs in New York City, also when it mattered. Slushpuppy caught the ear of a number of record labels but ended up breaking up in 2003. Shortly thereafter their bassist, Cory Baker, committed suicide. A year later Botti formed New Day Dawn but quickly had to put it on the back burner when she became pregnant with her son. The band started back up in earnest in 2006 and released their first full-length album, The Company We Keep, in 2008.
New Day Dawn is Dawn Botti on vocals and guitar, drummer Gary Szczecina (also Botti's husband), guitarist PJ Angeloni and bassist Mike Smith.
