Bollywood star Preity Zinta has blasted reports a warrant has been issued for her arrest in Mumbai, India, after she failed to pay screenwriter Abbas Tyrewala.
The actress was accused of not paying Tyrewala for his work on Ishkq In Paris, a movie she produced, and she was reportedly named in an arrest warrant after failing to appear in court last week (ends13Sep13).
The warrant was allegedly issued after a cheque worth $28,258 (£18,839) bounced, but the 38 year old, who has starred in a string of Bollywood hits, has since taken to Twitter.com to insist the reports are not true.
She writes, "Dear Media, pls (please) investigate stories involving celebrities Properly before being in a rush to carry it... as ur (you're) indulging in defamation."
She later added, "Surprisingly I have not seen my statements made to the press anywhere and it's sad how any news is news today irrespective of the truth."
The actress, who has since submitted proof of monetary claims to the courts, denies owing any cash to the writer and accuses him of not carrying out the required work for the film, according to editors at Hindustantimes.com.
