The former James Bond star's film about the French monarch was supposed to hit U.S. cinemas on 10 April (15), but studio bosses have unexpectedly put a hold on the movie, and have yet to reveal a new release date.

A source close to the project tells The Hollywood Reporter the special effects work was taking more time than expected, and suggested the film would be released this summer (15).

The historical fantasy features Brosnan as King Louis XIV attempting to achieve immortality by stealing the life force from a mermaid.

The Moon and the Sun also stars William Hurt and newly-engaged couple Benjamin Walker and Kaya Scodelario.
