Former 007 star Pierce Brosnan has slammed reports he was axed as James Bond because he made unrealistic pay demands.

The 52-year-old actor angrily refutes claims he demanded $36 million (GBP20 million) to appear in the next film, a sum he amassed collectively for the previous four Bond movies.

He asserts, "No way! No, it was a handsome round figure, of maybe GBP10 million, or something like that.

"Given what the films make, it's a spit in the bucket. I wasn't being greedy."

And the 52-year-old star is equally scathing about allegations producers feared he was too old for the part: "The age issue? B**locks to that, too."
