The Horological Machine No.6 'Space Pirate' timepiece collected the "Best of the Best" prize at the prestigious Red Dot gala ceremony in Essen, Germany. The "Horological Machine N°6 'Space Pirate'" is an exclusive watch by Swiss manufacturer MB&F. Limited to 50 pieces, it consists of 475 components with a body characterised by a biomorphic case and transparent sapphire crystal domes. It was one of only 81 products to obtain the highest-ranking award, among some 5'000 submissions at the 60th anniversary of one of the most famous international design competitions. In the category "Watches" only Apple and MB&F were valued with the distinction. A spokesperson for jury said: "...this wristwatch stages its own cosmos. It dissolves the boundaries of classical wristwatch design and advances it through an exciting futuristic approach. The distinctive shape of the clockwork simply fascinates and its mechanism mesmerises. Featuring the appearance of a friendly being from another world, this wristwatch seems to tell its own tale - a world of adventure for the beholder." The award coincides in suitably timely fashion with the introduction of a new limited edition of Space Pirates: HM6 RT. Only 18 pieces in 18K red gold, which follow the first 50 pieces in grade 5 titanium presented last year. The HM6 range will be limited to 100 movements in total. This new edition crafted from solid blocks of "5N+" red gold. In addition to the usual gold and copper, a small amount of palladium has been added to the mix. The palladium "fixes" the copper, which otherwise has a tendency to oxidise and tarnish over time. 5N+ red gold will thus retain its colour for many years. Inside the 5N+ red gold case, visible through no less than 10 sapphire crystals, lies the radical 475-component HM6 engine. Displaying time via revolving hour and minute spheres, it also features dual turbine regulators which act as shock absorbers for the automatic winding rotor, as well as a 60- - Switzerland - Friday 3rd July 2015 (1 Picture)
