Kazuhiro Tsuji's hyper-realistic sculptures of famous historical figures

Kazuhiro Tsuji creates hyper-realistic sculptures of famous historical figures: Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali and Abraham Lincoln - as three dimensional busts atop ornate presentation stands. The Japanese artist's uncanny likenesses are fashioned from mixed media, platinum cured silicone skin, polyester resin, chrome pating, composite bronze, genuine hair and wood. Each sculpture takes him three to four months, working some sixteen hours daily in his Burbank, California studio. The Lincoln bust was displayed at the Life and Times of Abraham Lincoln exhibit at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Library. Kyoto born Kazuhiro's creative journey started when, as self-taught make-up student, he transformed himself into Lincoln, United States of America's 16th President, inspired by a magazine feature on the makeup techniques used by Dick Smith in the 1985 TV series North and South. Tsuji says: "Lincoln, he is of course great example of being great human being. And a hero to many people. I respect him very much. And I simply love his face too. When I started to learn special effects make up at age of 17, Dick Smith's Lincoln likeness make-up I read in magazine really inspired me and I did Lincoln make up on my face several times to improve my skill. As I work on that make up, I learned about Lincoln a lot. I wanted to create his portrait for long time. "(With) Warhol, when I was watching his documentary, it was transitioning time of my career from commercial artist to fine art artist. It is not exactly the same but he went through that time." Following his first job on the Japanese film Sweet Home, he started his own company, working on several Japanese movies including Rapsody in August - whilst teaching special effects make-up at the Yoyogi Animation Institute. Hollywood beckoned and blockbusters such as: Men in Black, Planet of the Apes, as well as favourites such as How the Grinch Stole Christmas. He was, further, nominated for a Oscar nominations fo at Worldwide - - Friday 23rd January 2015 (14 Pictures)
