Sandstorm hits Hami in northwest China

As London is blanketed by a thick smog caused by a mix of city pollution and sand blown from the Sahara dessert, the city of Hami in north-west China's Xinjiang Uygur region is battling a sand problem on a much larger scale. On Thursday morning (03Apr14) the city was hit by a huge sandstorm that turned the sky an orange-red colour and forced people caught outside to hide behind scarves as they made their daily commute. - Hami, Xinjiang, China - Thursday 3rd April 2014 (5 Pictures)
