Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters at Screen Actors Guild - Monday 12th September 2011

Actress Mary Tyler Moore put on a brave face to attend the opening night of pal Bernadette Peters' stint in Follies on Monday (12Sep11) while battling a mystery health issue. The beloved TV and movie veteran was clearly struggling - half her face appeared to be swollen. The star's publicist is still trying to determine why Moore appeared so ill on the Broadway red carpet, but she has been battling health issues for some time. She has battled diabetes since the late 1960s and and alcoholism. Earlier this year (11) she underwent elective brain surgery to remove a benign tumour. But she appeared to be in great spirits and fine form in July (11), when she attended the Summer at Broadway Barks charity event. Just last week (ends09Sep11), she was named the recipient of the 2011 Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. The actress, who is best known for her portrayal of homemaker Laura Petrie in The Dick Van Dyke Show and as title character Mary Richards in iconic sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show, will be the 48th person to pick up the accolade when the Screen Actors Guild Awards take place in January (12).
