Pia Toscano's long awaited debut single 'This Time' has finally arrived, but the track has failed to impress critics after its radio premiere on Ryan Seacrest's show. Toscano was controversially eliminated during the early stages of American Idol but anticipation for her first recorded material has been building ever since.
After signing to Jimmy Iovine's Interscope Records, Pia's 'This Time' hit the airwaves this week but was met with a lukewarm response from critics. Chris William of TheWrap suggested the song plays too much on Toscano's apparent harsh elimination from 'Idol', writing, ".it's a compendium of comeback cliches that almost reads like a parody of the whole I-will-survive genre". Blinded By Sound were perhaps the most scathing of the track, noting, "As for the song itself, with lyrics like 'Well I'm mad as hell I ain't gon' take it no more' delivered with the ferocity of a kitten, I knew it was going to be a long three minutes". The single has been penned by Esther Dean, best known for writing Rihanna's hit songs 'S&M', 'Rude Boy' and 'What's My Name'.
Pia Toscano is putting the finishing touches to her currently untitled debut album, which is scheduled for release later this year. She is reportedly in a relationship with the Dancing With The Stars professional MARK BALLAS.
