Pia Toscano has officially signed a record deal with Interscope Records following months of speculation concerning her future. Toscano, a finalist on this year's American Idol, will release her debut single 'This Time' on 12th July 2011.
The first single has been penned by Esther Dean, best known for writing Rihanna's hits 'S&M', 'Rude Boy' and 'What's My Name'. New Yorker Pia will continue to work on her debut album, which is scheduled for release later this year. The young singer was widely regarded as the favourite to win American Idol before being controversially eliminated in ninth place. Her elimination sent Twitter into overdrive, with celebrities such as Alyssa Milano and Jennifer Hudson expressing their disbelief. In a statement released on Wednesday (6th June 2011), Toscano said, "I am thrilled to be joining the Interscope and 19 Recordings family. Jimmy Iovine was an amazing mentor during my time on Idol and I'm looking forward to working with him and everyone at Interscope Records and 19 Recordings. This is a dream come true".
Before completing work on her debut album, Pia Toscano will head out on the American Idol Live tour, set to kick off in Salt Lake City tonight.
