Pia Toscano has revealed her highly anticipated debut album will contain "big ballads" and "dancing songs". After months of speculation, Toscano has signed to Jimmy Lovine's Interscope Records and will release her first single 'This Time' on 12th July 2011.
During a recent interview with People Magazine, the American Idol finalist explained, "It's definitely going to be big ballads, but there's also going to be those fun up-tempo songs, those dancing songs". Despite finishing in ninth-place, the Idol star was coveted by numerous major record labels but eventually agreed to sign with Interscope. Pia spoke enthusiastically about the deal in a statement today, saying, "I am thrilled to be joining the Interscope and 19 Recordings family. Jimmy Iovine was an amazing mentor during my time on Idol ... This is a dream come true". Before completing work on her debut album, the New Yorker will head out on the American Idol Live! Tour, which begins in Salt Lake City, Utah, tonight. Pia is expected to perform her new single as part of her set on the sold-out tour.
Toscano's elimination on this year's reality show became one of the most talked-about moments of the series. Outraged fans took to their Twitter pages to express their disbelief, while celebrities such as Tom Hanks and Ashton Kutcher publically slammed the decision.
