Phish drummer Jon Fishman was feted in New York on Thursday (05Mar15) as he was inducted into the Syracuse Area Music Hall of Fame.

The jam band star, who was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania but grew up in Syracuse after he was adopted as a baby, was the guest of honour at the Syracuse Area Music Awards (Sammys) this week, when he was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Accepting the prize, Fishman confessed, "This is by far the most nervous I've ever been onstage."

He then recalled sneaking out of his family home as a kid to attend a Frank Zappa concert and revealed the scripture he had to recite at his bar mitzvah actually helped his musical development, saying, "In an odd way, that prepared me for 32 years in Phish."

The event was a family affair - the rocker's father, Dr. Len Fishman, was on hand to introduce him at the bash, which took place two weeks after the drummer turned 50.
