LATEST: The final day of testimony in the Phil Spector murder trial ended on Monday (27Aug07) after 77 witnesses had taken the stand.
Judge Larry Paul Fidler wrapped up proceedings, which began in April (07), at Los Angeles Superior Court, after the music mogul's defence team presented the jurors with a string of desperate emails tragic actress Lana Clarkson wrote before her death in February 2003.
Clarkson died from a gunshot wound to the head in the foyer of Spector's Alhambra, California mansion.
The producer's lawyers maintain Clarkson shot herself, and used emails in which she recalled drunken nights and getting "hammered" after she was stood up by a date.
Final arguments will be presented next week (05-06Sep07) and jury deliberations are expected to begin on 7 September (07).
Spector is accused of the fatal shooting of Clarkson. He has pleaded not guilty.
