LATEST: Rock producer Phil Spector will finally go on trial for murder in January (07), nearly four years after the fatal shooting took place. Superior Court Judge LARRY PAUL FIDLER made the announcement during a hearing yesterday (23JUNE06). Spector did not attend the proceedings. Spector has pleaded not guilty and is free on $1 million (GBP555,000) bail. The 66-year-old music impresario is accused of murdering Lana Clarkson in the foyer of his Los Angeles home in February 2003. An autopsy report concluded that Clarkson died after a revolver was placed into her mouth and fired. Spector told police who arrived on the scene that Clarkson committed suicide. He is best known for his work on THE BEATLES' LET IT BE album and his signature "wall of sound" recording technique.
