LATEST: The jury at the Phil Spector murder trial has heard how police officers knocked the music producer to the ground during his arrest, following the shooting of Lana Clarkson.
Officer James Hammond told the Los Angeles Superior Court hearing on Tuesday (17Jul07) that Spector took his empty hands out of his pockets before returning them.
Hammond testified his partner then used a Taser on Spector, but it didn't work so the officer then knocked the producer down with a shield, at which point he was handcuffed.
Hammond said, "He knew we were there but his stare was a blank stare. He wouldn't look at us."
He added, "The hands are what kill us. If we can see the hands, we can control what's going on."
Earlier in the day, Clarkson's best friend Punkin Irene Elizabeth Laughlin - known as Punkin Pie - denied once saying Spector should "fry" for the actress' death.
Laughlin also admitted not telling police officers everything she knew about Clarkson's state of mind in the run up to her death in February 2003, during which time Clarkson told her, "I can't take it anymore. I'm sick of this town. I want out."
Spector is accused of the fatal shooting of Clarkson at his Alhambra, California mansion. He has pleaded not guilty and claims Clarkson committed suicide. The trial continues.
