Canadian filmmaker Peter Wintonick has passed away at the age of 60.

The renowned documentarian passed away in Montreal, Canada on Monday (18Nov13) after a battle with liver cancer.

A statement from Canada's National Film Board reads, "Canadian cinema has lost a dear friend and a great champion with the passing of Peter Wintonick."

His most famous films include Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media, Cinema Verite: Defining the Moment and Seeing is Believing: Handicams, Human Rights and the News.

In 2006, Wintonick was handed the Governor General's Awards in Visual and Media Arts.
