Director Peter Jackson has warned fans of author JRR TOLKIEN it will be four years before he starts working on a big screen adaptation of classic novel The Hobbit.

New Zealand movie-maker Jackson - who turned Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings series into an OSCAR winning trilogy - admits he has a "desire" to transport The Hobbit onto cinema screens, but is aware lengthy negotiations need to occur first.

The rights to Tolkien's book are currently split between two major studios.

Jackson says, "I think it's gonna be a lot of lawyers sitting in a room trying to thrash out a deal before it will ever happen."
