Movie maker Peter Jackson is pressing ahead with plans for a big screen version of Lord Of The Rings prequel The Hobbit.

Hollywood studios NEW LINE are reportedly in talks to buy the film rights to JRR TOLKIEN's novel - and Jackson is keen to make it his next project after he finishes work on his much-hyped King Kong remake in 2006.

The director - who is preparing to unleash his final Lord Of The Rings epic later this month (17DEC03) - says, "New Line haven't actually talked to me about The Hobbit. I know there's difficulty about the rights.

"Certainly, if they want to talk to me about it, I'd be keen. It would be wonderful to complete the set of films."

The Hobbit tells the story of how BILBO BAGGINS - played by SIR Ian Holm in the Lord Of the Rings trilogy - comes across the ring.
