Footballer Peter Crouch and wife Abbey Clancy have had their Christmas tarnished by the news that their house has been burgled, with thieves stealing up to 100,000 pounds worth of items - including some of the pair's Christmas presents. Adding salt to the wound was the fact that Crouch has been ill recently and was in hospital, with Clancy leaving the house to go and pick him up following tests that revealed he had caught the same winter vomiting bug as his wife had suffered from.
The UK's Sun newspaper reveals that the robbers scarpered as the couple returned, with a source telling them "The men weren't able to take heavy items because they were disturbed, but they left the place ransacked." The source also spoke of the pair's illness, adding "She had been poorly all week and Peter was caring for her most of that time. But now the tables have been turned and Abbey is looking after him." They went on to explain, "Peter became really ill really quickly and it was suspected he had contracted meningitis. Abbey called in doctors but his club insisted he was taken to hospital."
Gallingly enough for the England international, he's been burgled before back in 2006 as part of a spate of incidents which saw several high profile footballers' homes broken into in the North West of England whilst they were out playing.
