HUMAN CARGO, CBC's six-hour drama about Canada's approach to the miseries of the Third World world refugee problem, has won seven of its 17 GEMINI nominations, including best TV movie or mini-series.

The drama's BRAD TURNER won best director at the Gemini gala on Monday night (13DEC04), which honoured the best Canadian

television, while BRIAN McKEOWN and LINDA SVENDSEN won writing awards.

Another big winner was SHATTERED CITY, CBC's mini-series about the Halifax explosion, which won a total of six Geminis this year.
